Curtains- What I Didn't Know

I'm just going to quickly start off this blog post about what I didn't know about curtains , with what I do know: curtains are a window's best friend. Long, short, billowy, layered, patterned, plain, it's doesn't matter, they all have a place. What doesn't have a place? A naked window.

Now, on to what I didn't know.

First off, this is my living room, and it is a work in progress. When we first bought the house the crown molding and trim was beige, the walls were red and peach, and the fireplace was tan. It's come a long ways. When I painted the fireplace Ben told me he reeeallly wanted me to leave the slate alone, but it needs to be painted, and I think I've almost convinced him to let me do it. Eventually we will change the hearth and the mantle for something rustic and awesome, but for now this is what it is!

When I hung the curtains I followed my usual measurements, which I'll post about later, but I had every intention of having the panels remain on either side of the windows. It was a fluke that the panels got moved into the center of the window, and honestly, I apologize because it's hard to see in the photos, but I gasped when I noticed the difference.

You might be laughing because the images don't appear all the different, but you'll just have to trust me. When the curtains are on either side of the window there is N-O-T-H-I-N-G special about the space. It lacks basically everything: drama, interest, style. The second I move the curtains into the center and create four separate sections, the entire room shifts, and it's more than just a little bit noticeable.

The separated panels draw the eye up to the ceiling, they create a frame for the masive windows and the whole room benefits from the improvement. What do you think? Do you have a space that you could try this out in? Comment below and let me know!
