5 Reasons to do a Renovation This Fall

There is this widespread belief amongst homeowners that spring and summer is the most ideal time to kick-off a renovation. I get why: the warm weather, the low heating bills, the ease of a BBQ when your kitchen is upside down and inside out. When you look at it that way, Fall and Winter are depressingly lacking, but these cooler months offer something the others don't! Here are a list of the Top 5 Reasons to do a Renovation in the Fall & Winter:

1. Christmas is Coming

With Christmas and the Holidays right around the corner, there has never been a better time to get the house company and season ready. Kitchen not pulling its weight? Maybe it's time for a remodel! Can't fit everyone in the dining room? Bust down a wall! Practical changes can make all the difference when it comes to the holidays, but then again, so can sentimental ones. If you live in a cold climate, you'll certainly be spending a lot

more time with your fireplace (if you have one.) Plus, if you're anything like me, you're already dreaming of those cozy Christmas nights curled up, stockings hung, lights twinkling. It might be the perfect time to update that old tile, or switch out the mantle for something fresh and new. When it comes to getting your house ready for the holidays, it could be something as drastic as a kitchen renovation, or as simple as changing out the dining room light fixture, and if you get started now, it'll be ready for that most Wonderful Time of the Year.

2. Timelines are More Manageable

Nothing puts a damper on a project like timeline delays. In the busy season delays can happen far too often causing unneeded stress and worry. Permit offices are overrun with applications,

forcing generally short wait times to turn into days and weeks of waiting. During fall and winter trades and contractors tend to be less busy, so not only can you probably expect a quicker turnaround time for your project, but you can expect more time and attention from those you've hired, and who doesn't want that?

3. Fully Enjoy your Space During the Summer Months

Summer is this magical season of backyard BBQs, camping, sprinklers, and parties on the deck, and, at least in Canada, it goes by in a blink! Fall and winter renovations allow you to enjoy your home, and the summer months when the weather is at it's best.

4. Ideal Weather

The temperatures are dropping and while you might find it a bit chilly, your contractor is welcoming the change. Summer can be too warm, winter too cold, and spring too rainy. Fall allows for consistent temperatures inside, now that the furnace is running occasionally, PLUS the weather is still beautiful outside. This combination provides optimal conditions for renovatingm that many homeowners may overlook.

5. You'll Be Spending More Time at Home

The colder temperatures outside inevitably have us spending more time inside, so we say- make

the most of it! Whether it's the functionality of your home, or updates to create the warm and inviting space you crave, it's never been a better time to get to work and bring your ideas to life. Soon the snow will be all around us, and you'll be glad you jumped at the chance to make your home the perfect, cozy gathering place for your friends and family.
